them that their lifestyle is damaging,
that their overconsumption
and exploitation of nature take far more than their fair share.
No one advises them to curtail
their air and sea travel or insists
they revamp their dietary habits.
No one tells them they should stop using cars
or that electric vehicles and recycling alone won't save the planet.
They are rarely informed that
the hopeful reassurances they receive
that there's still time and hope - are untrue.
People rarely hear that the real issue is people.
No one keeps talking about the urgent
need to fundamentally transform our civilization.
The media is driven by profit and advertising,
while politicians want votes and popularity.
Popularity is everything,
so convincing and a lie is standard.
Thus, substantive issues are left unspoken.
Instead, there's a proliferation of conspiracy theories,
falsehoods, propaganda, overly optimistic messages, and religious rhetoric.
And that horrible positivism.
They always add some positive message to that what they say.
It is harmful, dangerous and ridiculous, but they do.
And will do.
There's little mention of harsh realities;
even scientific publications are manipulated to emit a positive gloss.
There is widespread apathy towards environmental agreements.
They continue to be made and ratified,
only to be primarily violated after that.
Noone care.
This has been a recurring theme for decades - a standard political tactic.
The media perpetuates the myth that we have plenty of time,
instilling the belief that a miraculous solution is just around the corner.
I am unsure.
I do not know.
Our civilisation is treacherous.
Given the brevity of human life,
it's difficult for many of us to contemplate more extended time frames.
However, people declare their love for their children,
they destroy their futures
due to an unwillingness to think more profoundly and adopt a different lifestyle.
The result?
A state of ongoing decadence.
Endless, troubling decadence.
Demolished nature.
Burning and rotten.
Concealed melancholy behind masks of untruth.
